Become a Teen Reviewer

Review books, music, movies, video games and more to earn community service hours!

Teens can earn one community service hour for every review! Reviews will be posted on the WPL_TeenPicks account on our website and used in Library promotions. Reviews of up to 10 items per reviewer will count toward your community service hours, but you may review as many items as you wish. Items reviewed must be from Whitby Public Libraries’ collection. No prior training is required to participate in this program.

Reviews must:

  • Be between 250-300 words in length.
  • Contain 1-5 star rating
  • Contain both a summary of the book/movie/album, as well as a personal critique.
  • Not contain “spoilers”.
  • Be suitable for publication (full sentences and punctuation).

Becoming a reviewer is easy – simply fill out the form below to let us know what you're interested in reviewing. We will contact you by email to let you know your application has been approved, so you can begin writing! Approvals are done based on available staff time. The Library reserves the right to decline applications and will not contact unsuccessful applicants.

In order to ensure that all participation is authentic, we ask that only the teen volunteer submits this form. Parents and guardians may assist in passing along the form, but if it is found that a parent or guardian has submitted it on the teen's behalf, the reviews will not be counted toward community service hours.

Reviews will be posted under our WPL_TeenPicks account on our website. The review will contain your first name only and grade.
