There’s never been a better time to get connected. The Whitby Library has created a new Senior’s Education and Wellness Series with a focus on nurturing a sense of wellbeing and belonging for older adults. Thanks to a community grant from the Government of Ontario, our enthusiastic staff have designed 14 customized programs and workshops for seniors. The series encompasses a wide range of opportunities for engagement from retirement planning to gentle yoga, computer basics, and more.
We’ve also invited seniors to join an advisory committee to provide us with ongoing feedback on our programming. It’s crucial our patrons see themselves reflected in our ideas.
The series features a range of experts with the goal of sharing information and ideas with attendees, but each workshop will also emphasize engaging with each other. We're thrilled to be partnering with the Town of Whitby’s 55+ Recreation centre as a co-host for a few of our events.
The timing for this exciting new series is important as we hear regularly from experts that connectedness and healthy active living for seniors is important for battling isolation.
The goal of the series is to empower older adults with new skills, social connections, and support networks that will lead to a sense of wellbeing and connection. We are excited about the launch of this new opportunity for seniors. Our hope is all who participate will resonate with our series slogan; Live Well, Learn More!
The series debuted in the fall of 2024 and will run until March 2025.
